On the Road with Ella and Molly: A Day in the Life of Sistability Cleaners

Every day, our domestic cleaners at Sistability quietly change lives. They're not just tidying homes — they’re lifting spirits, checking in on wellbeing, and making everyday life a little easier for people who need support.

Meet Ella and Molly — two of our team members who work side-by-side, supporting NDIS and aged care clients across Ballina, Byron and Lennox Head. Here's a look into one of their workdays.

The Morning Routine

The sun’s barely up when Ella pulls into Molly’s driveway. The car’s already packed: cleaning caddies prepped the night before with gloves, colour-coded cloths, sprays, and surface disinfectants. The vacuum’s been serviced and runs like a dream.

With a quick rundown of the schedule and a thermos coffee in hand, the two set off. Between Ballina, Byron and Lennox Head, they’ll visit three to six homes today — each one a little different, each one important.

First Stop: A Familiar Face

Their first client is someone they’ve seen for months now — an older man who lives alone and receives aged care services. He greets them with a smile and a joke, clearly happy to see familiar faces.

While Ella begins wiping down the kitchen and sanitising the bathroom, Molly chats with him gently as she vacuums. It's clear their presence means more than just a clean home. Before leaving, they discreetly check the fridge for anything out of date, tidy the mail pile, and jot down anything of concern for their service manager.

Snacks, Snacks, and More Snacks

Between each home, Ella and Molly make time to snack. Fruit, crackers, trail mix, chocolate — the car’s practically a mobile pantry. “We eat all day,” they laugh. And they mean it. The work is physical, and constant snacking helps them stay energised, especially on longer days with more clients.

A Visit with Layers of Care

Their next client is an NDIS participant who lives with low mobility. Molly gently asks how their week has been while Ella starts in the bathroom. They clean with care and efficiency, always respecting boundaries and routines.

Sometimes there are things that need more than cleaning — a worsening smell, unopened medications, or signs of a fall. When this happens, they don’t hesitate to report concerns. They’ll even take photos (with permission) if something needs follow-up by the our Service Manager.

Lunch & Reset

By midday, the pair take a break in the car or a local park. Lunch is relaxed — more chatting, more snacks, and a scroll through their task list. They often call or text their service manager with quick updates, especially if there are notes to escalate.

Afternoon Clients & Gentle Observations

The afternoon brings more homes, each with its own story. One client might need help putting laundry away, while another just wants the windows open and floors freshened. They’re in and out efficiently, but always take time to say goodbye — sometimes, it’s the only real conversation that person has all day.

They’re more than cleaners. They’re quiet observers, listeners, and steady, trusted presences.

Wrapping Up

By late afternoon, Molly’s back home and Ella’s unpacking supplies. Cloths go in the wash, the vacuum’s emptied, and the caddies are topped up for tomorrow. It’s a rhythm now — part routine, part ritual.

The job is more than just cleaning. It’s care, connection, and community.
